Sally Darby

Sally Darby

Sally works with individuals, small businesses and studios on children’s book illustration, surface pattern and design projects. She specializes in character, floral, pattern and food illustration. She strives to maintain a hand rendered appeal to her illustrations, through watercolours, hand drawn typography and textures. Her style is influenced by folk art from different countries, Mexican art, vintage colour palettes, travel, nature, love for children’s books and a vivid imagination that helps bring her characters to life. Her illustrations have been featured on accessories, clothing and greetings cards in America and the UK and her hand cut paper illustrations have been used in an animation about sustainability for the BBC. She has had a range of her own products sold in shops and she has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally. Some past clients include Fatface, ArthurCox animation for the BBC, Festival of Nature Bristol, Thortful and Owlet Press. In 2016 she won a national competition through the Prince’s Trust called ‘Tomorrows Talent’ where she saw her designs featured on products both nationally and internationally. Sally works from her studio with her studio assistant Annie the schnoodle dog. She especially enjoys drawing with other artist friends at the zoological and botanical gardens. She loves music, travel, theatre and making miniature terrarium gardens. She can be found outdoors in the peace and quiet busily thinking up new characters and themes for her work.
