Megan Carter

Megan Carter is a surface pattern designer and illustrator who has been drawing ever since she was a child. With fond memories of spending hours drawing houses for mice and patterns for imaginary cushions and curtains, Megan was also in ore of her Dad who spent any spare moment painting in his shed at the bottom of the garden.

After studying Surface Pattern at Staffordshire University, Megan graduated in the year 2000 and went on to work as an in-house greetings card designer for Hallmark Cards designing for Marks and Spencers and then later working at UK Greetings where she designed for the Asda and Sainsbury’s brands.

Since the beginning of 2019 Megan has been working on a freelance basis exploring new collaborations to apply her pattern and illustrative work to. February 2020 saw the launch of Megan’s debut fabric collection with American brand Cotton and Steel where her patterns have become particularly popular within the international home sewing community. She looks forward to the launch of two more collections in 2021!

Megans love of historical patterns and paraphernalia shines through in her own pattern work where she loves to take influence from numerous design movements across the 20th Century. In contrast, she also takes the lighthearted fun and inspiration from her children, her cat and the contemporary design world around her. She has become an avid ‘Yoga with Adrianne’ follower over the last couple of years so when she’s needing a breather you can find her in a peaceful pose in a quiet corner of her house. Otherwise, time away from work is spent walking with family and friends, playing board games, and being creative with her own miniature artists in the making.
