Clare Davis London
Known for her strong use of colour, hand-made textures and cheeky humour, Clare’s work is instantly recognisable across branding, packaging and illustration. Drawing flat graphic shapes and pairing them with text allows Clare to create pieces of art for everyone and every wall.
Clare studied for a degree in Graphics and Advertising at Brunel University before launching her creative career in the mid-Ninties specialising in giftware and greeting cards. She have recently completed a lifelong ambition to gain a (Distinction) Master’s in Illustration at Falmouth University.
Working across several different media including dry point etching, screen printing with hand mixed acrylic colours. Inspiration comes from popular culture and the colours she sees around her. Clare loves all things packaging and tries to encprporate her quirky sense of humour into her illustrations. ‘Most of my artwork I visualise in my minds eye before I get started but the end result is not always what I imagined! I feel like I’m somewhere else when I create: everything just seems to fall in to place. The line work is perfect (maybe still a bit wonky) the colours go well together, the space in the image I’m making works well. When people look at my work I want them to feel a sense of joy: I want to make them laugh with maybe a cut in a bandanna or an elephant holding a teacup. The colours help the eye move around the page to create movement in the image.’
